Location Data
NoKara collects precise location data to enable the following features:
- Blackout reporting: When you report a power outage, we collect your precise location to map the blackout accurately
- Nearby outage tracking: We use your location to show you active blackouts in your area
- District detection: We determine your district to provide relevant UEDCL announcements and localized data
Location data is collected only when you are using the app and have granted location permissions. You can revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings.
User Account Information
We use Firebase Authentication to manage user accounts. This may include:
- Anonymous user ID (automatically generated)
- Device information
- App usage timestamps
NoKara uses anonymous authentication, which means we do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information unless you choose to provide it through app feedback.
Blackout Report Data
When you report a blackout, we collect and store:
- Location (latitude and longitude)
- Timestamp of the report
- Status (active or restored)
- Duration (calculated automatically)
- District name (derived from location)
Technical Data
We may collect technical information about your device, including:
- Device model and operating system version
- App version
- Crash reports and performance data (through Firebase)
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Provide Core Services: To enable blackout reporting, tracking, and viewing community data
- Location-Based Features: To show you nearby blackouts and detect your district
- Historical Data: To maintain your blackout history and calculate statistics
- Improve the App: To analyze usage patterns, fix bugs, and improve performance
- Community Insights: To aggregate data and show community-wide blackout statistics
Data Storage and Security
Firebase Cloud Firestore
We use Firebase Cloud Firestore to store blackout reports and user data. Firebase is a secure, cloud-based database service provided by Google. All data is:
- Encrypted in transit using HTTPS
- Stored on Google's secure servers
- Protected by Firebase security rules
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Blackout Reports: Stored indefinitely to provide historical data and community insights
- User Account Data: Retained until you delete the app or request account deletion
- Location Data: Only stored as part of blackout reports, not tracked continuously
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information in the following circumstances:

You can view your blackout history and statistics within the app.
Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and associated data by:
- Uninstalling the app (this will remove local data)

You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Note that this will limit app functionality.
Children's Privacy
NoKara does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@nokara.ug.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
