Empowering Ugandans to track, report, and understand power blackouts through community-driven data.
NoKara was born out of a simple frustration that every Ugandan knows too well: the uncertainty of power blackouts. When the lights go out, questions immediately arise: Is it just my area? How long will it last? Is this planned or unexpected?
We realized that while thousands of Ugandans were experiencing the same blackouts, there was no centralized, real-time way to share this information. Social media was fragmented, official announcements were often delayed, and people were left in the dark—both literally and figuratively.
That's when we decided to build NoKara. The name itself is derived from the Luganda phrase meaning "there's no power," a phrase that has become all too familiar in Ugandan households.
Our goal was simple: create a community-powered platform where Ugandans could report blackouts in real-time, see what's happening in their area, and access reliable data about power outages across the country.
To provide Ugandans with a reliable, community-driven platform for real-time blackout reporting and tracking, fostering transparency and empowering citizens with accurate power outage information.
To become the most trusted source of power outage information in Uganda, helping improve energy infrastructure transparency and contributing to better service delivery across the nation.
